How to use the Grade Calculator

  1. Enter your current grade in percent.
  2. Enter the desired overall grade.
  3. Enter how much the final exam is worth (weight %).
  4. Click Calculate to see the score you need on the final.

Formula used

Required final score = (Target − Current × (1 − w)) ÷ w

w is the final exam weight as a decimal (30% = 0.30).

Worked example

Current grade 78%, final worth 30%

To finish with 80%: (80 − 78 × 0.7) ÷ 0.3 = 84.7% needed

To finish with 85%: 101.3% needed — not possible

Maximum achievable with 100% on the final: 84.6%

Planning your preparation

Knowing the required score early helps you set a realistic goal. If you need over 90% on a heavily weighted final, start revising weeks in advance and focus on topics that carry the most marks. If the target is out of reach, the calculator shows the maximum grade still possible so you can plan for the next term.

Tips for accurate results

  • Use your weighted current grade, not a simple average of tests.
  • Check whether assignments are still due before the final.
  • Ask your teacher for the exact weighting scheme.
