How to use the Commission Calculator

  1. Enter total sales.
  2. Enter the commission rate in percent.
  3. Optionally enter your base salary.
  4. Click Calculate to see commission and total earnings.

Formula used

Commission = Sales × Rate ÷ 100    Total pay = Base salary + Commission

Worked example

Sales of ₹5,00,000 at 5%

Commission = 5,00,000 × 5% = ₹25,000

With ₹20,000 base salary, total pay = ₹45,000

Common commission structures

Flat rate: one percentage on all sales. Tiered: a higher rate after a target, for example 3% up to ₹5 lakh and 5% above. Base plus commission: a fixed salary with a smaller percentage. Real-estate brokers in India commonly charge 1–2% of the property price; insurance and mutual fund distributors earn trail commissions set by regulators.

Tips for accurate results

  • For tiered plans, calculate each slab separately and add them.
  • Commission is usually taxable as salary or business income.
  • Check whether commission is on sale price before or after GST.
